- Capability: The Subaru Forester excels on and off the road. Its well-tuned suspension confidently handles corners and curves while skillfully absorbing road imperfections for a comfortable ride. And thanks to 8.7-inches of ground clearance, Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive, and X-MODE advanced traction management, it's well-equipped for winter travels and off-road jaunts. The CR-V is good for on-road commutes. However, it doesn't come standard with AWD, and its lower clearance and lack of advanced traction control make it less suitable for more rugged terrain.
- Value: With a starting MSRP $1,200 below the CR-V, the Subaru Forester provides more for your money. In addition to AWD, it comes standard with steering-adaptive headlights, a STARLINK® Multimedia system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a full suite of EyeSight® driver aids like pre-collision braking and Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering. The CR-V comes standard with Honda Sensing® safety features, but all-wheel drive and advanced smartphone integration are only optional, and adaptive headlights aren't available at all.

- Interior: At 112 cubic feet, Forester's passenger compartment is one of the segment's roomiest and certainly exceeds the RAV4's 99 cubic feet. All Forester trims above base come standard with a panoramic moonroof, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. These are only available on the RAV4's top tier.
- Utility: If you need more cargo options for your errands or adventures, the Subaru Forester has you covered, with up to 74.2 cubic feet of max capacity on the base model and standard raised roof rails on all other trims. The RAV4's cargo area tops out at just under 70 cubic feet, and raised roof rails are only available on its two specialty tiers.
- Technology: Both models come standard with advanced driver aids like lane-centering, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. However, Forester also equips steering-responsive headlights and an available DriverFocus® Distraction Mitigation System-two features the RAV4 doesn't offer.
