Subaru Crosstrek vs Honda HR-V & Toyota C-HR
Subaru Crosstrek vs. Honda HR-V and Toyota C-HR - Compare Subcompact Crossovers in Glenville, NY
With its comfortable accommodations, flexible cargo capacity, and real all-season capability, the Subaru Crosstrek makes a compelling case as the segment's most well-rounded nameplate. Despite its "subcompact" designation, the Crosstrek offers one of the roomiest cabins in its class. CVT models come standard with Subaru EyeSight® advanced driver aids. And with standard Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive and available X-MODE traction management, Crosstrek can venture where others can't.
While Albany and Troy drivers have plenty of options in the crowded segment, the Crosstrek offers versatility that's tough to top. To show you what we mean, here's a quick look at how it compares two prominent class competitors: the Honda HR-V and Toyota C-HR.

Subaru Crosstrek vs. Honda HR-V
- Performance: The Subaru Crosstrek offers two powertrain options--both more powerful than Honda's lone engine. Crosstrek Base and Premium models use a 2.0L four-cylinder (152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque) paired with a six-speed manual or available Lineartronic® CVT. And for more internal motivation, you can select the Crosstrek Sport or Limited trims, which equip a 2.5-liter engine (182 hp, 176 lb-ft) with a standard CVT. The HR-V's single 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine falls behind at 141 hp and 127 lb-ft and doesn't offer a manual option.
- Capability: Crosstrek comes standard with Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive, giving it the edge over the HR-V, which only offers AWD as an option. Plus, if you go with the continuously variable transmission, you'll get X-MODE advanced traction control, giving you even more capability off the road and during all of Schenectady's seasons. The HR-V doesn't have a similar feature.
- Technology: The Subaru Crosstrek offers numerous tech features as standard equipment that the HR-V reserves for higher tiers. All Crosstrek models include a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, plus a full roster of EyeSight® driver aids like Pre-Collision Braking, Lane-Keep Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane-Centering. A touchscreen with smartphone integration requires moving up a level on the HR-V, while advanced driver aids are limited to the two highest tiers.
Subaru Crosstrek vs. Toyota C-HR
- Performance: Crosstrek (152 hp, 145 lb-ft) and C-HR (144 hp, 139 lb-ft) have standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines that aren't far apart in performance. However, if you want more power under the hood for your Albany commutes, Crosstrek equips a stronger 2.5-liter powerplant (182 hp, 176 lb-ft), while the C-HR doesn't offer another option.
- Utility: Despite its subcompact physical footprint, the Subaru Crosstrek offers plenty of practicality, with 21 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and 55.3 cubic feet with the second row folded. For cargo that won't fit inside, Crosstrek comes standard with raised roof rails. The Toyota C-HR has 19.1 cubic feet behind the second row but tops out at just 37 cubes with the rear seats folded. And if you want roof rails with the C-HR, you'll need to add them yourself after the sale.
- Safety Features: The Crosstrek and C-HR both demonstrate commitment to safety with a full suite of advanced driver aids on the base trim level. However, Crosstrek goes a step first, adding standard Pre-Collision Throttle Management and available features like Reverse Automatic Braking and Steering-Responsive LED headlights. The C-HR doesn't offer similar features.
